Who is Sultan Orhan Gazi?

Orhan Gazi was born in 1281. His father, Osman Gazi, the founder of the Ottoman State, is his mother; She is Malhun Hatun.

Orhan Bey conquered Mudanya in 1321 and brought his principality to the shores of the Sea of ​​Marmara. He became a bey in 1326 upon the death of his father Osman Gazi. The acquisition of Bursa in the same year is one of its most important achievements. After Orhan took Bursa, he gave it to his son Murat under the name of Bey Sanjak.

Orhan dealt a great blow to the Byzantine Empire by taking Iznik. It became the capital of the Iznik Empire and turned the city into an Islamic city, a center of Ottoman culture, trade and art. Orhan Gazi's next target was Balıkesir and its surroundings, where 4 cities passed under Ottoman rule. Ankara, the center of the Ahis, who also gave great support to Orhan's father Osman, is among the lands Orhan seized.

Orhan Bey's help to Byzantium, VI, who took the throne after an internal rebellion. It started with the close relations established with Ioannis. This is how the opening of the Ottoman Empire to Rumelia started.

He left the state, which he bought from his father Osman Gazi as 16,000 km², to his son Murad I as 95,000 km².

Death

Orhan Gazi spent the last years of his life in Bursa, leaving the administration of the Ottoman Empire to his son Murad. Although the cause and date of death are not known exactly, it is thought that he died between 1358 and 1362. Orhan Bey was buried in his father's tomb in Gümüşlü Kümbet, Bursa.
